Terms of service

Short, in plain English, and honest. The one-line version: the price we agree is the price you pay.

Who you are dealing with

Dorset EICR is a trading name of Peter Roberts, a sole trader based in Poole, Dorset. When these terms say "we" or "us", that means Peter Roberts trading as Dorset EICR. You can reach us at [email protected] or on 07836 535100.

1. Quotes and prices

Every job gets a fixed price in writing before we start. Once you have accepted a price, it does not go up. If a job turns out harder than we expected, that is our problem to plan for, not yours to pay for. The only thing that changes a price is you asking for extra work, and we will price that in writing too before doing it.

2. Booking and access

You agree to give us access to the property at the agreed time, including access to the fuseboard and, where safe and reasonable, to sockets and fittings. If we arrive and cannot get in, we may charge a reasonable call-out fee and will rebook with you.

3. EICRs and what the report means

An EICR is a professional inspection and report on the condition of the fixed electrical installation at the time of the inspection. It is not a guarantee that faults can never develop later. We report what we find honestly, using the standard codes, and we explain every observation in plain English.

4. Remedial work

If the report finds problems, we send a priced quote for the repairs with the report. You are free to use us or anyone else for that work. The report is yours either way.

5. Payment

Payment is due as set out on your quote or invoice. Certificates and reports for paid-up-front bookings are released when the job is signed off. We do not charge VAT.

6. Cancellation

If you are a consumer and you booked away from our premises (for example by phone or online), you normally have 14 days to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. If you ask us to start within that period and then cancel, you pay for the work done up to cancellation. To cancel, email [email protected].

7. If something goes wrong

Tell us. Email or call, and we will look at it quickly and honestly. Nothing in these terms removes your legal rights as a consumer, including your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 to work carried out with reasonable care and skill.

8. Our liability

We are responsible for damage we cause through poor workmanship or negligence. We are not responsible for pre-existing faults, for damage that was unavoidable in reaching wiring (for example lifting boards or cutting access holes, which we will always discuss first), or for losses that were not a foreseeable result of something we did wrong. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

9. Certificates and documents

Reports and certificates are emailed as PDFs from [email protected]. Keep them safe. If you lose one, ask and we will send it again.

10. Privacy

How we handle your personal information is set out in our privacy notice.

11. General

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If any part of them turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies.
