Fixed prices in writing
What it costs across Dorset
Indicative starting prices first, then a calculator that builds your own quote in about 60 seconds - the same maths we use ourselves. Your final quote is confirmed in writing before any work starts, and it does not move afterwards unless you change what you have asked for.
Indicative prices
| Service | What it covers | Price |
|---|---|---|
| New consumer unit + EICR bundle | Modern metal consumer unit fitted with RCBO and surge protection, every circuit tested and labelled, and the full EICR certificate in the same price. One visit. | £675 flat |
| EICR | Inspection and test of the fixed installation, every final circuit, with a signed PDF report and each code explained in plain English. | From £160 |
| Fuseboard change | Old consumer unit removed, modern board with RCD protection fitted, circuits reconnected, tested and labelled, certificate issued. | From £625 |
| Small remedials | The items an EICR turns up: a missing earth, a cracked accessory, a loose connection, bonding that was never fitted. | Quoted in writing |
| Further investigation | Where the report gives an FI code, tracing the cause so it can be coded properly and cleared. | Quoted in writing |
| Rewires and bigger work | Full and partial rewires, extra circuits, new points. Price it yourself, room by room, in the calculator below. | Build your quote ↓ |
Every price is confirmed before any work starts. Nothing goes in the diary until you have the figure, and nothing gets done on the day that you have not agreed to.
What moves the price
- The number of circuits. This is the big one. A one bed flat with five ways in the board is a very different job from a five bed house with an outbuilding, a garden supply and a granny annexe.
- The type of property. Flats, houses, converted houses and shared houses each test differently, particularly where the supply is split between units.
- Access. A board boxed into a fitted cupboard, a loft with no boards down, or a property where the meter is in a neighbouring cupboard all add time.
- The state of the installation. If the board is unlabelled and nothing is documented, working out what feeds what takes longer than testing it does.
- Whether anyone is living there. For rewire work, chasing walls carefully around a furnished, occupied home takes longer than an empty one - the calculator below has a tick box for exactly this, so the number you see is honest.
- Where you are in the county. Bournemouth and Poole are close to home. Lyme Regis, Portland and the far side of Blandford Forum are a longer run, and we price honestly rather than pretending distance is free.
- How many properties. Several addresses booked as one run are cheaper to service than the same properties spread over separate weeks, and we reflect that in the quote.
Why the remedials are priced separately
Bundling repairs into the report price gives an electrician a reason to find work. Keeping them apart means the report is just the report. You get the codes, then you get a quote against each one, and you decide what happens next. If nothing needs doing, nothing gets sold to you.
Landlords and agents with several properties
Send the list of addresses and each one is priced individually, so you can see the total before you approve anything. Visits are grouped by area so the run makes sense.
Build your own quote
Price an EICR or a fuseboard in seconds, or build a whole rewire room by room. The price updates as you go, from the same rate card we quote from - nothing hidden.
Quick single jobs
A safety report or a fuse board swap. Priced in seconds, done while you live in the home.
EICR safety check
Just need an electrical safety report? Price it here.
Enter your trip-switch count to see your fixed EICR price.
Consumer unit (fuse board swap)
Swapping an old fusebox for a modern board? Add it here. You will need one for a rewire or renovation.
Doing the board AND the EICR? The bundle above prices both in one visit - the summary will point it out if the bundle beats your two lines.
The full job: rewires and bigger work
Rewiring or renovating? Build the whole property below - whole-property items first, then room by room.
Will anyone be living there during the work?
Be honest here and the number you see is the number we confirm.
Tick this and every per-point price below allows for working carefully around a furnished, lived-in home.
Picture the job as a walk-round. Start on your driveway. Walk through each ground-floor room and picture what you want, and where. Don't forget the garden. Then head upstairs and do the rest.
Whole-property items
Add the bits that aren’t room-specific.
Rooms
Add each room and count the items inside it.
This is your price, built from the same rate card we quote from, and fixed in writing before any work starts. It only changes if you change the job, and we agree that with you first. Awkward access or a board that has to move is our problem to plan for, not yours to pay for - we never raise a price we have agreed. If a visit turns up something very different from what you entered, we talk it through honestly. Plaster make-good and decoration are NOT included in rewire work - we recommend a decorator and will coordinate.
Price questions
Is the price fixed or an estimate?
Fixed, and in writing. The only thing that changes it is you adding work, and we price that in writing too before we do it.
Do I pay if the report comes back unsatisfactory?
Yes. You are paying for the inspection and the report, and an unsatisfactory outcome is a valid result. It is arguably the more useful one, because it tells you what to deal with.
Do you charge to quote the remedials?
No. If we wrote the report, pricing the items on it is part of the job.
Can I get the fuseboard done at the same visit?
Yes - that is exactly what the £675 bundle is. The new consumer unit goes in, then the whole installation is tested and the EICR certificate is issued in the same visit. If you would rather test first and decide about the board afterwards, we do it that way instead.
What happens after I press "Send my quote"?
Your itemised quote lands with us straight away, with your contact details. We ring you back fast, talk it through, and confirm the figure in writing. Nothing is booked and nothing is owed until you have that written confirmation and say yes to it.
Do you charge extra for travel within Dorset?
Distance is one of the things that goes into the quoted price rather than a separate line added afterwards. You get one figure that covers the visit.
How do I pay?
Bank transfer against an invoice with the property address on it. Agencies can be invoiced with whatever reference your system needs.
Rather just talk it through?
Postcode, property type and rough number of circuits is enough to price an EICR. If you are not sure about the circuits, describe the board and we will work it out.
